Agreement to Terms
By using Spore (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
What Spore Is
Spore is an open-source command-line tool and web dashboard for launching and managing AWS EC2 instances. The Service:
- Helps you launch EC2 instances with automatic termination (TTL)
- Provides a web dashboard to view your instances
- Uses your AWS account and credentials
- Is provided free of charge under the MIT License
Your Responsibilities
AWS Account
- You must have a valid AWS account
- You are responsible for all AWS charges incurred
- You must comply with AWS Service Terms
- You are responsible for managing your AWS credentials securely
Costs
⚠️ Important: AWS charges apply for all EC2 instances, storage, and data transfer. Spore helps manage TTL (time-to-live) to prevent runaway costs, but you are solely responsible for monitoring and paying AWS bills.
Lawful Use
- Don't use the Service for illegal activities
- Don't attempt to abuse, hack, or disrupt the Service
- Follow the AWS Acceptable Use Policy
- Respect rate limits and quotas
What We Provide
Free Service
Spore is free and open source. We don't charge fees for using the CLI or dashboard.
No Warranty
The Service is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. This means:
- We don't guarantee uptime or availability
- We're not responsible for data loss or AWS charges
- Features may change or break without notice
- We may discontinue the Service at any time
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of Spore
- This includes AWS charges, data loss, or service interruptions
- You use Spore at your own risk
Authentication
The web dashboard uses OAuth authentication:
- We don't store passwords
- OAuth providers (Google, Globus, GitHub) have their own terms
- You're responsible for securing your OAuth accounts
- We obtain temporary AWS credentials on your behalf
Open Source License
Spore is licensed under the MIT License. You are free to:
- Use the software for any purpose
- Modify and distribute the source code
- Fork and create derivative works
The MIT License text takes precedence over these Terms for software usage.
Service Modifications
- We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service
- We may update these Terms at any time
- Continued use after changes means you accept the new Terms
Termination
You can stop using Spore at any time by:
- Logging out of the dashboard
- Uninstalling the CLI tools
- Terminating all EC2 instances launched with Spore
We may terminate or restrict access if you violate these Terms.
Third-Party Services
Spore integrates with third-party services, each with their own terms:
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in accordance with those laws.
